Empadronamiento
All those who are resident in Spain for more than 6 months of the year must register on the Municipal Padron. EU residents do not need to renew their padron on a regular basis, only those of non EU origin must renew their padron every 3 years.
EU residents should bear in mind though, that a certificate of Empadronamiento is only valid for 3 months, so should you be required to produce a certificate for any reason, a new copy will have to be requested from the Town hall where you are registered. There is normally no charge for this.
If you leave Spain to move back to the UK, you should request that you be removed from the Padron of the Town Hall.
Alhama de Murcia
There has been a great deal of mis-information circulating recently following changes to the Empadronamiento procedure. In light of this, Alhama Council have confirmed that anyone wishing to register on the Padron in Alhama must be able to provide the following documentation .
Documentation confirming personal identity- ie ID Card, Passport or Residency Card.
Documentation to prove ownership of the property at which they are registering.
If the resident is renting a property, they must present an official lease, ratified by the owner of the property.
The Registry for the Padron is located in the basement of the Town hall, opposite the local police station, from 8.30am - 2.45pm , Monday to Friday.
