We have been hunting around for the best buy on potting compost. The best buy we´ve come up with is at Miguel Moreno  Moreño S.L who have bags of 80 litres for 5 euros.

It´s not bad stuff.

They have one branch at Fuente Alamo, Carreterra Las Palas, 91, tel 968 597 994 and a second at Avenida Rio Seco, El Estrecho de Fuente Alamo, tel 968 59 77 59.

Gardenia garden center in Via Axial, Puerto de Maxarron have lovely geraniums on offer for only 1.75 at the moment, instead of their normal price of 2.20, and they're really good, healthy plants. They also have some cacti at 40% off, which is a really good deal!!!

Lidl have got their well priced stocks of seeds in. There's really nothing else to compete with them at 39 cents a packet. We 've grown a lot of the basic veg and had good crops here from the courgettes, lettuces, spinach, tomatoes, peppers and beans.The sunflowers also did really well. Even people with just a few patio pots can grow lettuce, tomatoes, peppers,nasturtiums and window sill cress and mustard. the seeds are so cheap it's a no brainer!

Go easy on the cabbages (butterflies) onions, its easier to buy in bundles from the market, and cucumbers - better to buy locl varieties, the heat murders these european plantlets.

If anyone has a lot of oranges or lemons that they do not want, Caritas in the Puerto de Mazarron will be very happy to receive them. They distribute to needy families in the area and would be very grateful for any donations. The centre accepts donations on Mondays from 5-6.30pm and is located in the basement of the church of San Jose, on the corner of Soledad, in the little back streets on the opposite side of the Avenida Dr Meca to the covered market.Call Carmen on 609 251 183. She speaks English.
