Legendary guitarist Mark Knopfler is to play in Murcia as part of his "Get Lucky" summer tour, which takes in 55 concerts across 20 European countries.
For many residents Sultans of Swing and Lady Writer define a time in our lives which still has us reaching for the volume button every time they come on the radio, and even after 120 million album sales, it's incredible to think that a guitarist of this magnitude can talk about his achievements as just having "got lucky."
Well we're the ones who have got lucky this time, as he's coming here to our region on July 24th, playing at the Plaza de Toros in the heart of Murcia, a rare treat as most legendary artists see nothing more of Spain that Madrid or Barcelona, missing out the best bit down here in the south.
He's promoting his latest album in what Mark calls, "a return to childhood, " and at 60, with a glittering musical career behind him, he's entitled to become a little nostalgic."It's a sound that takes me back to my early years in Glasgow and Newcastle, " he explained to the Madrilenean press pack, and is a harmonious, tranquil blend of folk , blues and Marks' inimitable rock.
The pleasure of Marks acknowledged true obsession for "making good songs" shines through in this music, and it's absolutely what you'd expect from the master, quality melodies delivered with understated flair, classic stuff.

Mark Knopfler OBE (born 12 August 1949, Glasgow, Scotland) is a British guitarist, singer, songwriter, record producer and film score composer.
Mark Knopfler is best known as the lead guitarist, vocalist and songwriter for the British rock band Dire Straits, which he co-founded in 1977 with his brother David. After Dire Straits disbanded in 1995, Knopfler continued to record and produce albums as a solo artist under his own name. Occasionally, Knopfler has played in other groups, such as the The Notting Hillbillies; as well, he has guested on works by other artists, including The Dandy Warhols, Bob Dylan, Bryan Ferry, Eric Clapton, Jeff Healey, John Fogerty, Jools Holland, Steely Dan, Emmylou Harris, Sonny Landreth, Phil Lynott and Chet Atkins. He has produced albums for artists such as Tina Turner, Randy Newman, Bob Dylan and even "Weird Al" Yankovic. In addition, he has scored the music to several films, including Metroland, Local Hero, Cal, Last Exit to Brooklyn, Wag the Dog, and Rob Reiner's classic, The Princess Bride.
He is one of the most respected fingerstyle guitarists of the modern rock era. Knopfler was ranked #27 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time."
