Murcia, 3000 white goods replaced in first week of Plan Renove - don't miss out.
Region of Murcia news, now is a good time to replace electrical goods, Plan Renove
It's interesting how little figures reflect changes in social habits and the effects of an economic downturn.
Figures released from the Murcian ecoparks show that domestic users have drastically reduced the numbers of white goods that are being thrown out, with 60% less fridges and 50% less air conditioning units coming into the recycling system.
The head of re-cycling services says that this reflects a large increase in the numbers of people repairing existing appliances, or making do, and also increased numbers taking part in the Plan Renove scheme which enables consumers to buy new energy efficient appliances at reduced cost, providing they hand in their old appliances for recycling, a new edition of which has been recently announced.

Apparently 3000 appliances were replaced last week, in the first week of the new allocation of funds, so if you need to replace any white goods, make sure you don't miss out before the monies allocated run out. We noticed an advert yesterday from one of the multiple giants announcing their participation, (don't email to ask which- all the big ones on the retail parks will be participating, ) which is a shame in a way as the plan is for not only encouraging the recycling of .white goods, but also to stimulate employment and support local businesses, so it seems sad that the big multiples, who already have substantial advantage because of their big buying power should be able to participate in the scheme.
A similar scheme has been announced to replace windows and doors with more energy-efficient models, but in this case the larger multiples are excluded, only small or medium sized companies being allowed to supply the replacements, although at the moment the process is quite complicated to actually qualify for the discounts, as manufacturers have to apply to go on the list of accredited manufacturers before the public can even apply for the grants.
Another interesting little figure to emerge from the eco-park figures is the vast increase in the receipts of cooking oils, (28% up)light bulbs and fluorescent tubes(127% up), the disposal of which has always caused problems in the past.
Oil has traditionally disappeared down the sink in the past causing large scale problems for those involved in waste-processing.
In total , use of eco-parks has increased by 47% in the last year, a figure which has delighted eco-park chiefs who are happy that publicity campaigns to encourage more recycling are obviously working.
