Local News Cartagena, New Auditorium nearly completed
Works are continuing apace in the new auditorium and conference centre currently under construction in Cartagena, which aims to put Cartagena firmly on the map as a centre for culture, music and the Arts.
The new centre will have two different auditoriums, one seating 1500, the other 500 and sophisticated stage constructions will enable even the most sophisticated of productions to be staged.
16.6 million euros is being invested in the final stages of fitting out, with stages, kitchens, seating and external landscaping all in the final phases, all the contractors appointed and works continuing at a rapid rate.
The biggest expense has been the creation of the staging and scenic equipment, including the lighting, sound systems and acoustics, which have full moving stages, multi-level staging and all the facilities to cope with big productions such as Opera, all of which has cost 8.3 million euros.
Seating, catering, equipping out the offices and public leisure areas has cost 2 million euros, soundproofing has come in at 1.8 million, and the remainder is being spent on landscaping the external areas and linking the new auditorium with the existing buildings in the port area of Cartagena.
It's all good news for those of us who live here, improved facilities increasing the range of entertainment on offer to us all.
We're just waiting to see who is going to be performing in the opening concert!
