Condado deAlhama Golf Society
The golf course at the Polaris World Condado de Alhama, opened in December and residents were finally able to play golf. The course is fantastic and has been praised by press and professional golfers from the Hi5 tour who are currently playing their 3rd tournament here.
One of the residents (Dave Lloyd) noticed that many golfers were playing the course on their own, so he arranged a meeting in our local Clover bar to discuss the way forward.
From that meeting Barry Barker and Graham White offered to organise the Condado de Alhama Golf Society. We now have a weekly Wednesday night meeting in the Clover to accept entries from residents and guests for our Friday tournament. Also players can fix up their own games with new friends for the following days of their visit.
In 5 weeks we have progressed from 11 players to 30, which is a great start.
We have prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd divisions plus a ladies section when there are sufficient numbers. Catherine Emmett-Smith produces winners certificates for the winners as a momento of their success.
Results will be posted on community websites, including the Simply Networking site, and in total we have already had 80 different players enter, with handicaps ranging from 3 to 36. We have had entries from all over Europe with a strong Norwegian contingent.
We have arranged a 10E discount on residents green fees, and have reserved times running throughout the summer.
As we grow we shall charge an annual membership fee which will help us to progress. Away days, different competition formats and an annual players championship should follow.
With so many residents who have not visited Condado over the winter yet to come out, we anticipate it becoming a really successful society.

Fuente Old Guard Golf Society
Friendly Golf Society which aims to help its´members get the best deals going in golf, the idea being that 16-20 people can negotiate a better price than a smaller number. We play at different courses once a month, normally the last Thursday of the month and offer our members friendly competitions at reasonable cost. There is a one-off membership fee of 20 euros, which includes a society shirt and a free cap. After that members pay 5 euros a month, all of which goes to subsidise more e xpensive games and social activities. We run a complimentary programme of social activities and presentation nights, and meet most thursday mornings at the Hacienda del Alamo course which is our home course. Ladies are welcome. The new La Torre Golf Society is looking for members.
