The nearest branch to Mazarron is in danger of closing, due to lack of people willing to take on a role on the committee, which is a great tragedy for people in this area.Please contact Bob Hall, who is currently working as welfare officer, chairman and secretary on his own, otherwise the branch will close and members will be forced to travel to Torrevieja. A little history; The first meeting of the Royal British Legion, Spain District South was held in Fuengirola on 25 November 1987 and attended by 60 people. There are now fourteen branches which come under the umbrella of Spain District South. The Royal British Legion in Spain District South is registered as a charitable organisation with the Spanish Ministry of the Interior. This gives the Legion legal status in Spain and facilitates fund-raising, which is an essential part of the Legion’s work. Membership is now in excess of 2,300 with welfare responsibility for all Andalucía and beyond covering an area of over 35,000 square miles. The Legion in Spain is bound by the same rules and constitution as the UK and it performs the same welfare tasks wherever possible. The aid provided is mainly home and hospital visits, loan of medical aids such as wheelchairs, crutches, Zimmer frames, etc. and welfare and pension advice. The aims and objectives of the Royal British Legion world-wide are to promote the welfare of those who have served or are serving in the armed forces of the British Crown and their dependants. Membership is open to everyone who supports these aims and objectives. All nationalities and ages are welcome - those wishing to join do not have to have served in Her Majesty's Forces.
