Ex-Servicemens Association of Mazarron District [ESAMD]
A little more info from Ian Wilson, Honorary Life PresidenEx-Servicemens Association of Mazarron District [ESAMD] The Ex-Servicemens Association of Mazarron District [ESAMD], registered in the Community of Murcia with the number 8.694-1a,was formed as a non-profitable organisation, so that those who are no longer serving can help to maintain the traditions of the past and keep in touch and help their comrades. I am ex RAF and was attempting to open a Royal Air Forces Association in the Murcia region, but due to insufficient volunteers, this was a no-goer. Working with my very good friend, the late Alan Tolley [ex RN], various other options were looked at and we agreed that an ex-Servicemens Association be formed. With sadness Alan passed away and so I pressed on with the initiative. A committee was formed, Constitution raised and steps were taken to make the Association official and to get it registered as a charity. With great assistance from Carlos of Properties Solutions, the Constitution has been accepted by the Spanish Government and we are now officially registered. The Association is non-profitable, non-sectarian and non-political in the strictest sense. In no circumstances shall it, as a body, take sides in any political or industrial dispute but it may, if the need arise, make representations to the government or any other body on any matters regarding the welfare of Ex Servicemen generally. Full membership of the Association is open to any person who has served in any of the Armed Forces or their dependents. The Association will extend such help as is possible to any members or other ex-servicemen, irrespective of nationality, when necessary. In addition to Committee meetings, we hold a function every month at different restaurants and our membership is going from strength to strength.

HAH, Help at Home
HAH IS HERE
We are a group of caring members of the local community whose sole aim is to help those people who are finding it difficult to manage, hence HAH…HELP AT HOME.
Maybe, you or a loved one have recently been discharged from hospital or are under medical supervision. Perhaps you have had a fall/operation and need a bit of help, or you are a full time carer needing a break either at home or in hospital. We may not always have the solution, but we will do our utmost to help.
As a subgroup of HELP MURCIA MAR MENOR who already run a very successful hospital visiting team at Los Arcos , we are building our own team of carers, fundraisers, translators, and shoulders to lean on!!! Initially, we will work within a 15k radius of Los Alcazares, although our desire is to be able to help those in need in the Mar Menor area.
We have qualified nurses to advise, people with caring qualifications, fun fundraisers, translators, but of course we are looking for more special people who are prepared to commit a few hours to help us grow. We will also be looking for a qualified nurse who has or is willing to get Spanish qualifications, who will be assisted to obtain them and then paid for all work undertaken on our behalf.
We will have regular group ‘get-togethers’ to plan our activities, and democracy and communication will be a key element throughout. Why not join us?
Have you got any medical/carer qualifications, could you help raise some funds, enough initially to cover volunteer expenses thereby helping us to extend our services?. or a few hours to spare and a shoulder to lean on?
Unfortunately, none of us are getting any younger or fitter, and most of us may need help at some time, so do you think you could offer some help, time or experience?

MABS Cancer Support - Mazarron
The Group was founded in 1999 by five women (4 British and 1 Austrian), all of whom had had breast cancer. Originally named MARINA ALTA BREAST CANCER SUPPORT GROUP, their aim was to provide support to cancer patients and their families on the Costa Blanca and the Costa del Sol. News travelled fast and the medical profession was soon referring ALL types of cancers to the Group for support, so the name was changed to CANCER SUPPORT GROUP (MABS) to reflect this.
Cancer Support Group (MABS) is a registered charity and is funded from the local community in Spain. We are non profit making group who rely totally on donations and fundraising events, MABS does not receive any financial assistance from local or regional governments. Could you do some light housework or ironing? Could you walk a patient’s dog? Could you do some shopping or collect a prescription for a patient? Are you fluent in Spanish and able to help with spoken and written translations? If you said ‘Yes’ to any of these questions then you could become a volunteer for Cancer Support Group (Mabs) Mazarrón. There are no special skills necessary to become a volunteer, just a desire to help those less fortunate than ourselves. We have volunteers from all backgrounds, some whose lives have been touched by cancer others who have not. Initial training is provided and ongoing support is available to all volunteers. WHATEVER YOUR SKILLS - WE NEED YOU!
MABS Mazarrón does not receive any funding from the Spanish Central Government or from the local Health Authorities. The services provided by the group are paid for entirely from the proceeds of fundraising events and donations. Every cent raised remains within the Mazarrón area to help LOCAL people at this very difficult time in their lives. Our fund raisers and volunteers work extremely hard to ensure there are sufficient funds available to continue our services.
