Walking in the Region of Murcia

Opportunities for walkers are almost unlimited throughout Murcia, and the region attracts visitors from not only the English communities within Spain, but many also come here to enjoy the stunning scenery as a holiday option. 

Paul and Alison Leahy run Vista Verde Trails, a company offering specialist walking holidays around the region, taking their groups to the most beautiful locations throughout Murcia to help them appreciate the vast number of different walking options open to walkers.

They themselves live in the heart of  the Sierra Espuna, where they regularly walk with other walking enthusiasts and friends.

They run walking holidays and day trails, catering for both larger and smaller groups , tailoring the walks to suit the abilities and requirements of their clients, from shorter, more relaxed itineries which encompass scenic routes and beautiful countryside, to the more challenging and much longer expeditions of which Paul is particularly fond.

 Paul has extensive experience as both a guide and instructor, having been a member of the Dartmoor rescue Group and worked as part of the expedition training team on the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. He also spent many years in the Devon Ambulance Service and Marines, whilst Alison has a strong administrative background and a passion for walking.

They are able to arrange accommodation and catering, or prepare tailored routes for visiting groups, either with or without overnight accommodation.

In addition to the walking holidays, they operate Vista Verde Day Trails, which runs regular walks around the region of Murcia which are open to residents or visitors, with the degree of difficulty varying from week to week.  

All the routes have been carefully graded to suit all levels of walkers , starting with the

  BLUE ROUTES - EASY ROUTE
Easy routes - usually less than 10 Km, No major hills (but some as you will be in the mountains!). Predominantly good paths. Walking time approximately 2-3 hrs. 

Progressing to

 GREEN ROUTES - MODERATE ROUTE
Moderate routes - usually more than 10Km but less than 20Km. More uphill, but still on predominantly good paths. Walking time approximately 3-4hrs.

And finally
RED ROUTE - HARDER ROUTES
Hard routes - May involve some scrambling (over rocks, but not climbing) paths may not always be level or obvious. Walking time approximately 5-6hrs or more. A greater level of fitness will be required. But you won't need to be an Iron man/woman!
