The Hotel La Mariposa is run by Mark, Sam and their two children in the stunning Sierra Espuna, and offers a tranquil haven which can either form the base for an enjoyable holiday, or offer a special retreat for a couple of nights in the heart of the Murcian countryside.
Its’ location in the center of the Sierra Espuna Regional Park makes it an ideal centre for artists, photographers, walkers or lovers of beautiful countryside, but it is also a natural choice for those seeking adventure and the hotel itself runs Quad Biking, Mountain Biking and walking tours, as well as arranging activities with qualified expert guides in the fields of mountaineering, parascending and kayaking.
For those who prefer a gentler pace the hotel is ideally located in the centre of the Region of Murcia, with easy access to the sightseeing attractions of the north , which include the holy town of Caravaca de la Cruz, with its emblematic Basilica and famous running of the Wine Horses Fiesta, Cehegin, the home of the Begastri archaeological site, Archena and Mula both spa towns and Calasparra, which boasts Spains finest paddy fields.
To the south is the beautiful city of Cartagena with its important Roman Theatre and military past, Alhama, the home of arab hot spring baths and the stunning beaches of the Costa Calida.
There really is something for everyone.
The hotel accommodation is all en-suite and clusters around a central courtyard, each room having central heating and with daily cleaning undertaken.
The hotel itself has a swimming pool and sun deck set in private gardens, with a shaded courtyard and terrace offering stunning views across the surrounding countryside.
Free WiFi and TV are available in the lounge bar for those who like to keep in touch with the outside world, and a fully stocked bar and Sams’ fabulous home cooking mean that you never have to leave the hotel if you don’t want to.
The restaurant serves meals as required, offering a fantastic 4 course menu del dia for only 9 euros, to both guests or passing trade, as well as bar meals, tapas and an excellent value menu de noche.
Regular music nights with or without accommodation are held on a regular basis and offer superb value for money as well as a thoroughly enjoyable getaway.
For those wishing to stay overnight , the hotel offers two evening bar meals, 2 tickets for the music, a double room for two people and two breakfasts at only 65 euros for 2 people!
Guests may also upgrade to a course evening meal for only 10 euros more, making it just 75 euros for a couple to enjoy a wonderful short break.
Single night occupancy rates are shown below, but the hotel also offers some fantastic inclusive packages for those who might like to treat themselves to a midweek break or weekend away, with or without an activity involved.

Prices quoted are well below local tourist board levels and offer excellent value for money, including breakfast and taxes. Please note that these prices are the same all year round, but do increase slightly at times of peak demand during Fiestas and Bank Holidays.

Directions.... Alhama de Murcia is a large town just off the E15 A7 motorway at the foothills of the Sierra Espuña, from the centre of the town follow the signs for Mula/Pliego, as you enter the village of Gebas the hotel is the 1st building that you come to on the right hand side.
