Mazarron Art Exhibition, Patrick Durrant, The Essence and Matt Jones, Tranquillity, 30th July-28th August

Art exhibition in Mazarron features two local ex-pat artists, Matt Jones and Patrick DurrantA new exhibition is opening this Friday in Mazarron, featuring two local ex-pat artists, Matt Jones, known to many across the region as half of Rainbow Satellites, and Patrick Durrant, an artist from East Anglia.

Both artists exhibit extraordinarily different styles and the works on show fill the space of the Casas Consistoriales in Mazarron with light and colour, demonstrating two different points of view of both life in Spain and the Region of Murcia.

Matt Jones has no formal art training, although he has attended Foundation art courses and has been painting for around 15 years, filling his spare time with art, in between running a busy restaurant in Worcester.

This zest for experimentation has inspired him to create many pieces which incorporate collage and mixed materials, and he delights in exploring the question," what happens if I do this....." creating an explosion of colour and imagery which is uniquely his own.

His style is totally different to Matts' , his preferred medium watercolour, although he does also use pastel and acrylic to capture the lights and shades of the Region of Murcia.

His exhibition is entitled, "The Essence" which reflects his fascination with people and the way in which they relate to the world.

He uses a quote by George Buchner to sum up his philosophy towards his work,  " One must love humanity in order to reach out into the unique essence of each individual, no one can be too low or too ugly."
