De Tapas por Totana, Tapas route from 15th- 24th July
08 / 07 / 2010
What's on Totana, Tapas route as part of the Fiestas of Santiago
As part of the celebrations of the Fiestas of Santiago, Totana businesses are promoting their annual event" De Tapas por Totana" a tapas route which takes participants around a number of tapas bars in the town.
If you've not participated in a tapas route before, give it a try, they really are great fun and take participants into bars they've probably never visited before, enabling them to sample a whole range of different tapas, which of course, is what they're meant to do!
The way it works is as follows:
11 bars are participating in Totana, and El Pareton, and each prepares its speciality tapas, which it offers, together with a beer , for 2 euros.
Visitors pick up a Tapas route passport from either the tourist office, which is on the side of the Town hall in the centre of Totana or any of the participating bars, which shows the name and location of the bars and what they're offering.
They pick a bar and buy the tapas and drink for 2 euros and the bar stamps their passport to show they've been there, and once having tasted the tapas, it is given marks out of 3, 3 being the highest score.
Then it's onto the next bar to try another one.
Anyone gaining 8 stamps fills in the passport with their details and puts the completed passport in a collection box in any of the bars.
On the 30th July at 6pm, all the completed forms will be put in a box and 12 will be drawn out, those 12 winning a free meal in one of the restaurants. On that evening, the winners will be called on the spot and if they don't answer their phone, another person will be drawn, so stand by that phone if you enter!
The tapas route is open from 15th-24th July INCLUSIVE and there are no fixed hours for the tapas, as long as the bar is open you can participate .However, you have to go to 8 different bars to compete in the draw, not the same one 8 times, but of course if you like what you're served you can go back as many times as you like, and the visits to the bars can be spread out across the whole nine days.
It does work, we've had lots of emails from people who've had a whale of a time on these tapas routes and one lady enjoyed her newly discovered tapas so much she went back to the same bar four times in a week and was devastated when the route finished.
The passport shows the opening times for each bar, but be careful, many are closed on Monday and Sunday evenings.
