Where to go Mazarron, El Sagrado Corazon de Jesus, a nice walk up to the best views in Mazarron
They say that God has all the best views, and that claim can certainly be verified in Mazarron, as the views from the foot of the Sagrado Corazon de Jesus are absolutely stunning.
This emblematic figure of Christ is perched right on the top of the Cabezo del faro, the highest point of the rocky cliffs which envelop Mazarron, close to the lighthouse .
The statue itself which shows Jesus, arms outstretched, looking out across the port and town of Mazarron, was paid for by the local residents of the area, erected in June 1948 and provides a focal point for miles around, the tall white figure elegantly dressing the cliff tops.
The road leading up to the statue runs up behind Avenida Tierno Galvan, and is called the subida del Faro Manuel Acosta, then Avenida de Maro santo, and comes to a dead end before the lighthouse.
From here it's an easy walk up to the statue, but carry on past the statue and the coast continues a little further, giving fantastic views across Bolnuevo and along the coastline to Percheles.
There are old industrial remains up here which are remnants from Mazarrons mining and industrial past, lending atmosphere to the walk, but be careful because there are no safety rails and it's a steep drop to the sea below.
Once you've finished walking/photographing an ice cream or a drink can be a welcome treat from the heladeria which is opposite the entrance to the statue.
The prices are rather steep, but the views down over the port are fantastic and it's a great place to watch the sunset. The gardens are lovely, but it is pricey and is only open for the main summer weeks.
This isn't the easiest place for those with limited mobility, but is a good place to go for an amble around and is a great place for atmospheric photos and views of Mazarron, and is a useful focal point for a short walk up from the centre of town.
