Triples League Final Results.
In this last week of the latest series the Triples League ground to its final conclusion. "Ballykiss Angels " represented by Richard Smith, Johnny Sparrow and Dave Green had taken the top spot in the prior week but reconfirmed this with a final flourish against "Chalada Pollitos" with Di Morris, Sheila Robertson and Nina McKenzie seemingly struggling to get out of bed to catch up on an early deficit and finish down 25 to 18. Congratulations to "Ballykiss Angels" on taking the Champion's trophy with a clear margin of 3 points from their nearest rivals.
"T-4-2" came second but only just from "The Three Amigos" in the persons of John Allaker, Graham Lewis and Terry Franklyn who aspired to the same number of points but had accumulated a much inferior shot difference and thereby taking third place. "T-4-2" normally with Jim Tarrant, Eileen Harris and Nick Ford were very nervous at the need to substitute Eileen at the last moment fixture but Janet Tarrant stepped forward and held steadfastly to her task at lead.
Skip Jim himself bowled masterfully throughout finally picking up 7 shots in the last two ends to seal the triumph over "The Tartan Touch" by 28 points to 18. In this series "Heroes and Villains" selected from Brian Wright, Les Crook, Mandy Wright (but including Alan Benton for Les in this last match to beat "Mutts Nuts" 25-16) have had a true roller coaster moving from class to dross and vice versa from one week to another but yet still holding on to fourth place and a mention in despatches.
Last Friday in the CBBA League Mazarron Miners redeemed themselves for the defeat in the prior week by returning to winning ways against La Manga Crusaders.
Miners sitting in eighth place behind La Manga Crusaders in second place were naturally a little apprehensive but which proved to be unfounded - Miners won the match at home at Hacienda by 4 games to 2 and a shot superiority of 108 to 78. This puts Miners back up to 4th place in the league table. Undoubted heroes on this occasion were Skip John Wright (substituted for Captain Colin Sear at the last minute) supported by Sylvia Logue and Ron Potts who battled their way through to win their game by 15 shots to 10.
Skip Jim Tarrant this time supported by Johnny Sparrow and Dave Green returned the best result of the day by winning 28-11 while Skip Brian Robertson, Robin Logue and Jack Brennan were disappointing in losing following their recent record of successive victories but which everyone hopes will prove to be only temporary. This week the Miners face Horadada Gladiators at Horadada and are determined to end the record of successive defeats in away matches without a single win this far.
At the end of the week the club holds its annual Christmas Dinner and Dance and Prizegiving. There are still some tickets available for Members and their friends and anyone looking for information on this or other matters should contact Richard Cooper on 968 131 619 or Doug Macfarlane at 968 429 980 or refer to the website at www.mazarronbowlsclub.webs.com.
